Ways to find your Happy Place After Summer

Toth and Team prides itself in helping you find your “Happy Place.

With summer weather winding down and fall weather slowly creeping in, it’s easy for us to naturally revert to “hustle bustle” mode (I'm already seeing holiday decorations!). Summer is a time we tend to calm down and enjoy ourselves; when fall is in full effect, most of us put our blinders on and plug away.

Before you know it, you’ve lost that “happy place” feeling and it might take until next summer to get it back again.

Check this out to find out what you need to know if you want to buy a vacation home at Apple Valley Lake. https://www.applevalleylakeohio.com/Blog/What-Do-I-Need-to-Know-When-Buying-a-Vacation-Home-at-Apple-Valley-Lake

Toth and Team has compiled a list of ten ways to find your “happy place” even when summer has ended and life returns to its regularly scheduled program.

It’s always a good idea to take some time for “self care.” You have to be the best version of you in order to give what is required of you in your everyday life.

  1. Be Active!- Relaxing comes in many forms. And it has been proven that the more your body exercises, the more deep and genuine rest you get when you sleep. It's all a cycle, really. Get out there and be active. Being active doesn't have to be strenuous; 30 minutes of gardening is just as “outdoors-y” as a jog around the block. Do something you LOVE!

  2. Get outside! Being outdoors is proven to help keep you grounded and elevate your mood. We spend way too much time indoors connected to the outside world, but not enough time connecting WITH the outdoors. Even if you just take a walk and enjoy the sights of the lake and sounds, getting outside can benefit you.

  3. Just sit! We are too busy these days. And there's nothing wrong with having things to do, but if you can't sit down and just "exist" for even five minutes a day, then you might have to readjust your priorities. Even if you have to lock yourself in the bathroom for a few minutes and breathe, then do that; it's a start.

  4. Take a bath! No really, not because you smell! Take a hot bath and while you're at it, throw some Epsom salts in there. Not only does a hot bath elevate your mood, calm you down, and produce better sleep, adding Epsom salt can magnify these benefits. And, hey, you're getting some alone time to recharge and reset.

  5. Sift through the negatives and make adjustments! Let's face it: our fast-paced lives that are ever-connected to social media are laden with unnecessary negativity. The good thing about that is that YOU have the power and ability to control what comes into your life. Sometimes it's as easy as sifting through your friends list and getting rid of the negativity; other times it's not so easy. But maybe your friend's list is a great place to start. Surround yourself with positivity it's contagious.

  6. Do something you love! The busier we get, the more we start to put our hobbies on the back burner. But studies show that you will be happier and more relaxed if you leave some time during the week to do something you love. Maybe that's sitting on a dock and appreciating the lake or watching the birds. Maybe it's drawing or painting. Maybe it's volunteering. Whatever it may be, allow yourself the freedom to do that which you love.

  7. Be mindful when you do everyday activities. An activity as simple and rote as doing the dishes can become more relaxing if you make yourself aware of each and every part of the process. For example, the colors of the bubbles, the sound of the water, the shine of the dishes, the fresh sent of the soap and so on. Being mindful can lead to a better, more relaxed you.

  1. Wake up and smell the coffee!  For us, coffee keeps us focused and on task during the day. It's also what we do first thing in the morning. That morning cup of Joe motivates us to get up and out of bed to get the day started.

  2. Make a list and start crossing things off. Making a list of all the things you have to do can take the stress off of your brain. It's also been said to keep a pen and paper by your bed so that if you're awake in the middle of the night, you can alleviate some of the stress of the ever-growing mental to-do list by writing it down. It get's it out of your head and onto the paper so that you have more room for new "to-do" items :) Studies show that when you make a list and start to cross items off that list, you feel a sense of accomplishment.

  3. Sit down and "unWINE." After your Epsom bath, put your jammies on and sit down with a nice glass of your favorite wine-- bonus points if that wine is red. The benefits of red wine have been linked to heart health and a world full of other positive effects. But we get relaxed at the very idea of a quiet evening and a glass of red wine. But do so responsibly; a little too much and you're not going to be happy the next day.
