Yes, Apple Valley Lake has boating restrictions. If boating is part of your reason for buying here, check the rules before you choose a home or purchase a boat. A lakefront address does not, by itself, tell you which watercraft you can register, whether a dock can be changed, or whether marina docking is available.

Who can use a boat on Apple Valley Lake?
Under the 2026 lake rules, watercraft need current Ohio registration and AVPOA permit decals. The boat must be titled in the name of a property owner in good standing, and a member in good standing must be on board while it is operated. Operators must also meet applicable Ohio boating requirements.
AVPOA issues annual, temporary, new-boat and special-event permits. Annual decals renew for the April 1 through March 31 membership year. The number of permits available for a lot can depend on when ownership transferred by deed. If you own several boats, ask AVPOA to check the rules for the particular property before you buy.
What boat sizes and power are allowed?
The 2026 handbook lists these maximums:

The maximum beam, or width, is 8 feet 6 inches for all watercraft. For an outboard boat, the primary engine is limited to 300 horsepower and a secondary engine, typically a trolling motor, to 25 horsepower. A pontoon’s combined horsepower is limited to 300. Houseboats are not permitted.
These measurements are tied to the registration and the association’s rules. If a boat is close to a limit, send its exact registration and specifications to AVPOA for a determination before relying on it.
Can a guest bring a boat?
There is a limited temporary-pass process. The 2026 handbook says a host property owner without a boat registered for Apple Valley Lake may request up to two temporary passes per year. Each lasts seven consecutive days. Personal watercraft, such as jet skis, do not qualify for that pass. The owner must apply in person, provide the boat owner’s registration, complete the required form and be aboard while the boat is used. This is a rule to confirm with AVPOA before planning a guest visit.
Where can you launch, dock and store a boat?
The handbook identifies launches at the east side, the south side and the marina. It also says boats and trailers cannot be left at a launch site for more than 24 hours. Overnight docking, anchoring, beaching or mooring is not allowed at association common areas.
The marina offers docking, tie-ups and storage under its current fee schedule. Availability is a separate question. If you are considering a lakeview or off-lake home, ask the marina about space and storage before assuming a dock or tie-up will be ready for your boat. For a lakefront home, check the existing dock, shoreline, water depth and any approval needed for a change.
What should you know on the water?
The 2026 rules call for no-wake speed from sunset to sunrise and within 80 feet of a shoreline. They also specify no-wake distances near swimming areas, fishing boats and people engaged in towed activities. Boats generally travel counterclockwise around the lake except at no-wake speed. Watch the posted lake-condition flags: conditions can limit boating or close the lake temporarily.

Think about the property and the boat together. A buyer considering a lakefront home should inspect the dock arrangement and ask what can be changed. A buyer considering a lakeview or off-lake home should plan how to launch, park and store the boat. In either case, verify that the exact watercraft and your intended use fit the current rules.
