While Apple Valley Lake and all of its summer fun rest for the winter, this time of year makes it possible to enjoy some different activities.  Maybe you can enjoy them with your family or alone, but it certainly will make your season bright-- that is until the sun can take over once again!

As we mentioned in our recent Holiday Blog post, this time of year is synonymous with family and food.  It’s a nice time of conversation and getting back to our roots and enjoying the simple things.  Yes, it’s a season for hustle and bustle, but it’s a different kind of hustle and bustle-- it’s just the holidays!

Amid the running around, gift-buying, and preparation to be with family and friends, take some time to consider these activities we’ve compiled for you.  Does your family have an activity you enjoy that we haven’t mentioned? Let us know!

A Christmas Story House (Cleveland, Ohio):

The actual house featured in the popular classic movie, “A Christmas Story” has been restored to its original movie appearance and opened its doors to visitors.  For a small price, you can go on a nostalgic journey through sites and scenes from the movie where little Ralphie just wanted nothing more than a Red Ryder Air Rifle but was reminded by everyone, “you’ll shoot your eye out.”  This home is located just a few minutes from downtown Cleveland in the beautiful area of Tremont. Click here for access to tickets, dates, and times.

Delaware Fantasy of Lights (Delaware, Ohio)

Take this opportunity to see 132 light displays of over 1 million lights! After your mesmerizing view, come inside and enjoy some hot cocoa, cookies and Santa! Admission starts at $20 per carload. Click here for more details.

The Dennison Polar Express (Dennison, Ohio):

Just as read in the book and seen in the movie, the Dennison Polar Express takes families on a journey to the North Pole.  As the ride unfolds, so does the story.  Once you arrive at your destination, Santa comes aboard and has a surprise for the kids!  Wear your pajamas!  For availability, reservations and rates, call 740-922-6776 or click here.

Ohio Statehouse Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting (Columbus, Ohio December 7th!!)

The beginning of the holiday season is kicked off with the annual holiday Statehouse event. Holiday activities include: carolers, refreshments, historical and modern character guests (including Santa!) and much more. Free and open to the public.  Click here for more information. This particular event is on the 7th of December, but guided tours are available year-round.  Click here for more information.

Take a Drive; Pack the family up in the car.  Take a drive around your neighborhood or one nearby and enjoy all the light displays you see.  You can pop on some festive music and make it a fun tradition.  Make it into a game and vote on the best one.  Send the winning home a Christmas card and tell them they were the winner!  A little kindness for the Holiday season and some free family fun.
